5 Ways A Dentist Can Improve Your Smile And Oral Health

Dentist Articles

When it comes to the field of dentistry there have been so many advances in the last ten years. This includes both regular oral health and cosmetic dentistry. Today, dentists are able to do more than ever before. The good news for us is that we can take advantage of this to improve numerous things relating to our mouth, teeth, and gums. No matter what problem you have it can undoubtedly be cured by a Colorado Springs dentist in some way or another. Below is a list of 5 things that a dentist can do to improve either the appearance of your smile or your overall oral health. #1 - Braces One of the longstanding popular things that dentist have been doing for years is putting braces on teeth. If you have teeth that are crooked and uneven then you may want to consider getting braces put in your mouth. Braces are better looking and cheaper than ever before. There are so many new and exciting options such as clear braces that are referred to as "Invisalign". You can opt for these or go with traditional braces even though they are becoming less popular. #2 - Teeth Whitening Another thing that you can do to improve the appearance of your teeth is to opt for teeth whitening. There have also been major advances in this field as well. In the past all you could do is go with a standard gel tray whitening where a mouth guard filled with hydrogen peroxide gel was fitted on the teeth. Now there are ways that are more effective and produce an even whiter smile such as laser whitening. Laser whitening, done by professionals like Frederick G Guerra DMD, makes use of an ultraviolet laser that shines through the hydrogen peroxide gel to strengthen its effects. Typically you will spend about 45 minutes under the laser and achieve the same whitening effect that you would if you were to wear white strips for two weeks. In most cases the laser whitening effect is considerably more pronounced than a two week strip regimen. #3 - Dental Cleanings Dental cleanings are one of the most effective ways at improving oral health. With a dental cleaning a dentist will remove things from your teeth that cannot be done at home via brushing such as plaque and tarter. Things like plaque and tarter can allow microorganisms to harvest themselves and multiple to produce devastating health effects in the long term such as oral cancer. #4 - Veneers If you are looking for a two-in-one solution to correct a crooked smile and whiten teeth then you could go with veneers. Veneers are one of the hottest items in cosmetic dentistry today because they offer a long term solution to two major problems. With veneers the teeth are sanded down to about half of their original size and then fitted with caps. The caps are made of porcelain which is a highly stain resistant material that is also very durable. Veneers can last 20 years or longer. The only downfall to veneers is that they can be quite expensive. However, for the time that they stay in your mouth they are quite a good investment considering you may not need another set for 20 plus years. #5 - Dental Implants If you have missing teeth and are looking for a permanent solution then you may want to look into dental implants. Dental implants are a much better and preferred solution to traditional dentures which can be quite a hassle when it comes to maintenance. By speaking with your dentist you can figure out whether or not dental implants are the best solution for you towards filling in missing teeth. In some cases going with another alternative suits the patient best.

Improving My Dental Appointments

After dealing with a few root canals, I realized that it was time to take my dental hygiene a more seriously. I talked with my dentist about what I could do differently, and he was full of great suggestions that would help. He walked me through different ways to brush, floss, and take care of tartar buildup, and it was really amazing to see the difference that it made. I also started taking a fluoride supplement to strengthen my enamel. When I made it to my next appointment, my dentist was blown away with the improvement. This blog is all about improving your dental appointments by keeping your teeth healthier.
