Why Professional Laser Whitening Is Superior To At-Home Tooth Whitening

Dentist Blog

One of the best things you can do for your appearance is to have your teeth whitened. Whether your teeth are badly stained and discolored or just need a little touch-up, a shining white smile can greatly improve the look of your smile. However, how you go about it is important and can drastically impact your oral health. Read on to learn why a professional laser whitening is always superior to trying to whiten your teeth at home.

Speedier Results

As technology has improved, at-home whitening kits have admittedly become speedier. However, they're still not as fast as having your teeth whitened with a laser in a dentist's office.

When you whiten your teeth at home, you usually rely on chemicals like peroxide to remove stains. This chemical has to sit on your teeth for a long period of time, possibly for multiple treatments in order to achieve the look you want. Sometimes it's delayed even longer, as teeth often can't withstand multiple whitening treatments one after another. As a result, it could take you days or even weeks to achieve the look you want.

Laser whitening uses a chemical substance, but that chemical's whitening process is sped up by being introduced to laser light. Most patients will be a substantial improvement in the color of their teeth after just one dentist visit.

Gum Protection

Another common problem with whitening your teeth at home is that it often comes with the risk of damaging your teeth. However, your gums are also at risk. Gums are delicate and susceptible to damage if they're exposed to peroxide, especially over long periods of time.

Dentists make sure to protect patients' gums by covering them in a protective solution, like liquid rubber, in order to shield them from the chemicals and laser light. You'll avoid potential damage and won't experience any of the gum sensitivity that often follows after whitening your teeth at home if you see a dentist.

Professional Reassurance

Lastly, dentists can provide reassurance that you'll get the results you want safely and effectively. No matter how many times you've whitened your teeth at home, you can be certain that the cosmetic dentist you visit will have performed the procedure on many patients many more times than you've tried it yourself. They know what to expect from the process, and they have a strong understanding of your dental health and what your particular needs may be.

Your teeth have a strong bearing on the overall appearance of your face. If you want to have your teeth whitened, make sure to choose the safest and most effective way in a cosmetic dentist's office.

Improving My Dental Appointments

After dealing with a few root canals, I realized that it was time to take my dental hygiene a more seriously. I talked with my dentist about what I could do differently, and he was full of great suggestions that would help. He walked me through different ways to brush, floss, and take care of tartar buildup, and it was really amazing to see the difference that it made. I also started taking a fluoride supplement to strengthen my enamel. When I made it to my next appointment, my dentist was blown away with the improvement. This blog is all about improving your dental appointments by keeping your teeth healthier.
