If you aren't happy with the look of your smile, then it can affect the way you see yourself in general. It can cause you to be less sociable in general, and it can ruin your self-confidence in a way that even prevents you from trying to get certain jobs or enjoying activities you would normally have a great time doing. Here are some of the things that can cause you to not be happy with your smile and the things that can be done to take care of those issues:
You have discolored teeth
If you have discolored teeth, then you want to first figure out if they are stained or if they are the color they are because of thin enamel. The reason for the discoloration will dictate what needs to be done in order to give you a whiter, brighter looking smile.
If your teeth are stained, then you should go to the dentist for whitening sessions. Don't bother with the store-bought whiteners. These will take a long time, and you will have to use many kits to even see a difference. Along with possibly seeing some lightening with store kits, you can also see bright white spots that will present a whole other visual issue you won't be happy with. The dental whitening sessions with a dentist are tailored to your needs and will give you the fastest results, although it may take a few sessions to see the results you are trying to achieve.
If your teeth are discolored due to thin enamel, then the only way they can be whitened is for the dentist to put something on them that is the color you want. Bonding can be hand crafted on your teeth to whiten them. Veneers can be made to fit over them in the color you want. In some cases, crowns may be the treatment of choice for whitening teeth, as well as protecting them from other problems.
You have a gap in your teeth
If you have a gap in your teeth that you aren't pleased with, this may be an easy fix that can also be done with bonding or veneers. The dentist will just need to add a bit of bonding on the sides of the tooth and design it so it appears as if your teeth now have a normal gap. A veneer can be put on one or both teeth also, which will leave them looking like they have always had a normal gap.
You have a tooth smaller than the rest
If you have one tooth that is smaller than your other teeth, then that one tooth will really stand out. The dentist can easily take care of this using one of a few different methods. They can add on to the tooth with bonding, they can put a veneer over it to give it the right size and shape, or they can even go with a crown to accomplish giving it the right size and shape.
Many problems with your smile can be easily fixed. If the issue with your smile is more substantial damage, you may still only require dental implants to improve your smile. For more information, contact a local dentist.

After dealing with a few root canals, I realized that it was time to take my dental hygiene a more seriously. I talked with my dentist about what I could do differently, and he was full of great suggestions that would help. He walked me through different ways to brush, floss, and take care of tartar buildup, and it was really amazing to see the difference that it made. I also started taking a fluoride supplement to strengthen my enamel. When I made it to my next appointment, my dentist was blown away with the improvement. This blog is all about improving your dental appointments by keeping your teeth healthier.
