If you want to keep all of your teeth and to ensure that your overall oral health is good, you know that you need to take good care of your teeth and gums at home. However, even if you do everything you can for your oral health at home, it won't be enough to keep you out of the dentist's chair. Here's why you still need to make regular appointments for cleanings with your dentist.
No Method Removes All Plaque
Plaque is everywhere in the mouth, and it's the source of many dental health problems. In addition to cavities, plaque also plays a role in the development of gum disease. Unfortunately, no one method of dental care at home can remove 100% of plaque. If you pay careful attention, advertisements for water flossers, mouthwash, and more will never say that they remove 100% of plaque. They can get close, but they can't eliminate it perfectly.
You'll Need to Treat the Tartar
The problem here is that any plaque that's left behind on your teeth will eventually harden into tartar. Tartar is the meaner big brother of plaque and is impossible to remove from your teeth at home. Tartar can cause cavities and gum disease just like plaque does, and without its removal, you're pretty much guaranteed to develop an oral health problem at some point without professional help.
Following a Routine
When it comes to keeping your teeth healthy, the best thing you can do for yourself is to follow a set routine with your dentist's office. Rather than only visiting when problems develop, keep doing your oral health routine at home to maintain your dental health as best as you can, and then come in for regular cleanings at the dentist's office. With the dentist's ability to blast away tartar and your own ability to keep the majority of plaque at bay, you can nearly guarantee that you won't develop dental problems.
However, maintaining that schedule is a necessity, as the longer tartar is around, the more likely it is to cause you oral health problems. Your dentist will be able to suggest a schedule of how often you should come in for cleanings based on your personal oral health needs.
If you haven't done so for a while, you should visit clinics such as Silverstone Family Dental for a cleaning. Don't just count on your cleaning habits at home; make sure you're getting all the tartar build-up on your teeth removed, for your health's sake.Share

After dealing with a few root canals, I realized that it was time to take my dental hygiene a more seriously. I talked with my dentist about what I could do differently, and he was full of great suggestions that would help. He walked me through different ways to brush, floss, and take care of tartar buildup, and it was really amazing to see the difference that it made. I also started taking a fluoride supplement to strengthen my enamel. When I made it to my next appointment, my dentist was blown away with the improvement. This blog is all about improving your dental appointments by keeping your teeth healthier.
