3 Reasons Why You May Need A Root Canal

Dentist Blog

A tooth that is badly decayed or infected doesn't always have to be extracted. With the help of a root canal, such a tooth can be repaired and saved for normal functioning. However, not all teeth need a root canal procedure. During a root canal procedure, your dentist will remove all the bacteria and decay in your tooth pulp, nerve, and root, apply some disinfectant, fill and cover the area to prevent the tooth from decaying again. Here are three signs that you're a candidate for a root canal.

Excessive Tooth Decay

When you leave a tooth decay problem to advance, the threat gets to your tooth's root. When this happens, the decay may progress and threaten to destroy your entire tooth when left unattended. To rectify this problem, a root canal procedure is performed by a dentist to bring things back to order.

A tooth decay sometimes goes unnoticed for a long time since it eats the nerves slowly over time, making it hard for you to realize what's going on. However, if you maintain regular teeth checkups, your dentist can easily detect the problem when they X-ray your tooth. Slight tooth decay is easy to solve and will always take lesser time and resources to handle.

Discoloration of Tooth

When your tooth starts to decolorize over time without any concrete reason you can think of; you can easily get worried. If you suspect something is wrong, then you should see your dentist about a root canal procedure. Several things can cause your tooth to discolor, but one leading cause of discoloration is damaged root or trauma caused to the tooth.

Teeth discoloration can easily be seen and detected in the front teeth. When the tooth pulp dies, the blood supply to your tooth crown drops, leading to discoloration. That's why many tooth discoloration cases are used as a sign that you might need a root canal procedure for the affected tooth.

Loose Tooth

A loose tooth in your mouth can be caused by many other factors, including physical injury that affected the mouth and teeth. However, loose teeth can also result from nerve death, which can only be treated using a root canal. When the dead nerve releases acidic waste to the surrounding bones, the waste ends up softening the bones to make your tooth weak.

When you realize your tooth is becoming loose yet you haven't been to an accident or any physical impact, you should rush to your dentist for help. The dentist will examine the tooth to see what the problem is.

Improving My Dental Appointments

After dealing with a few root canals, I realized that it was time to take my dental hygiene a more seriously. I talked with my dentist about what I could do differently, and he was full of great suggestions that would help. He walked me through different ways to brush, floss, and take care of tartar buildup, and it was really amazing to see the difference that it made. I also started taking a fluoride supplement to strengthen my enamel. When I made it to my next appointment, my dentist was blown away with the improvement. This blog is all about improving your dental appointments by keeping your teeth healthier.
